Coffee Stain North teamed up with Geoff Keighley at the Summer Game Fest to trick audiences into thinking Dead Island 2 was coming back – before deflecting everyone away with Goat Simulator 3.
In a cheeky lure, Geoff Keighley promised the return of a long-dormant gaming franchise, which led to a trailer very reminiscent of the long-running MIA game, Dead Island 2. The Summer Game Fest 2022 trailer begins with a jogger on a California Boulevard. who rushes forward as chaos ensues around him.
Instead of zombies, however, we have goats, which are seen running around, crashing into every available object, with some strapped to jetpacks as well. You can check out the trailer here:
This was a clever little ruse by Coffee Stain Studios, who are parodying an E3 2014 reveal trailer for Dead Island. It’s a really memorable trailer and a shame the game never came out. Here’s a reminder:
While Dead Island has made a few conference appearances in a playable state, the game has long been stuck in development hell. It was initially being developed by Yager Development but has since changed hands through Sumo Digital and is currently being taken over by Dambuster Studios as of last heard.
As for Goat Simulator 3, while this troll might be irritating to Dead Island fans, it’s entirely branded by the silly franchise, which has often faked other games. It was confirmed in the trailer that the game will arrive in Fall 2022.
It would be great to see more evolution of the series as, while it has had a hiatus in recent years, it has become a rather tired concept by the time of Goat Simulator 2. However, it would be great to see the title find the magic that made it such a viral sensation. to begin.
