During the third day of IFA 2022 (opens in new tab), we had the opportunity to meet and have fun with even more fabulous brands. Swan was one of them.
- Take a look at our best coffee maker (opens in new tab) guide to more great coffee options
Swan is an iconic British brand dating back to the 1920s, designing stylish kitchen appliances and appliances with outstanding performance. Most of their collection is available in an eclectic array of colors including sky blue (our favorite), rich red, delicate green, traditional cream and contemporary black.
When we saw the Swan Retro Pump espresso machine, we were immediately drawn to the retro, vintage-inspired and beautiful design. The large pressure dial with a large chrome-effect case in the center of the device is one of the first features you see. The eye then moves to the side to see the three buttons that control the size of the cup. There’s also a milk frother for making frothy latte that you can see just below the one-touch buttons.
It is available for purchase from amazon (opens in new tab) and other retailers starting at £108 ($124.32 / $AU 182.58), which is one of the most affordable espresso machines you can buy, and it’s one that if we went to college/university we would take with us.
While we weren’t in a position to try out the coffee maker (it will be coming soon), we were impressed by how versatile it promises to be. It can do much more than an espresso. With its 15 bars of pressure – which is the maximum amount you’ll want to apply in an espresso – you can also enjoy lighter flavors like cappuccino, latte and flat white.
Removable milk tank and milk frothing steamer can make most coffee specialties possible. We believe that if you’re not in the mood for coffee, you can use the milk heating features to make a hot chocolate.
One feature we love is that the drip tray can be adjusted. This is really handy for catering to the different size mugs and cups that you might prefer to use. If you are a true coffee connoisseur, you will have a small espresso cup (for espressos) and a taller glass container for latte. If you’re not a coffee connoisseur, don’t worry: using your favorite mug, you’ll have just as delicious coffee.
Overall we think this is one of the best espresso machines (opens in new tab) for students who are going to college/university for the first time, or returning to complete their studies. It might not be the cheapest coffee maker available as you can buy a filter coffee maker for around half the price, but if you want to make a latte, cappuccino or espresso at the touch of a button in style, then this is the machine for you.
