The second part of the fourth season of the series will arrive on Netflix on July 1st.
Despite being billed as a second volume, the second half of the show’s fourth season is actually just two episodes. But, both are epics. The eighth episode of the season, which is called Papa, arrives at 85 minutes, or one hour and 25 minutes, while the season finale is titled The Piggyback and is a movie in its own right, lasting two hours and 19 minutes.
The trailer is the second look many dedicated fans of the show got at the second part after a 30-second clip was shared publicly during Netflix’s annual Geeked Week event. The clip initially debuted as a post-credits scene following the end of Stranger Things season 4 episode 7.
The trailer hints at an epic finale, thrashed once again by Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, with the show’s young cast tested to their absolute limits.
The first part of the show’s fourth season was a huge success for Netflix, with subscribers to the streaming service watching a whopping 4.1 billion minutes of Stranger Things season four in the first three days of release. Not only that, but all four seasons of the supernatural horror series are currently ranked first, second, third and fourth on Netflix’s official Top 10 TV list.
Netflix must wish they could release Stranger Things every week.
An epic ending to Stranger Things?
Not. There will be at least one more season of the sci-fi giant after the release of the second half of the fourth season.
There aren’t many details on what we can expect or when we can expect it, though we know for sure that it will mark the final entry in the series’ main story. Executive producer Shawn Levy recently explained the ScreenRant (opens in new tab) that its creators, the Duffer brothers, “didn’t want the series to run out of smoke” and not be welcomed – but the Stranger Things universe could still continue in spin-offs and standalone films.
With numbers like that, you’d think Netflix has an interest in moving things around quickly, so we’re expecting a 2023 release date for the show’s finale.
